The Connecticut Clean Energy Fund is once again accepting applications to its solar rebate program thanks to $3.1 million in fresh funding. The rebate program, which provides rebates of up to 40 percent for installation of small solar photovoltaic systems, had been closed since November because all previous funding had been allocated.

New Hampshire has signed an energy contract with ConEdison Solutions to procure wind power to run state office buildings. The energy contract runs through May 31, 2010, and moves the Granite State closer to its goal to have 25 percent of its power from renewable sources.

Venture capital investment in clean technology and renewable energy rebounded in the second quarter after sharp declines in the previous two quarters, according to a report by The Cleantech Group and Deloitte. Global cleantech investments totalled $1.2 billion across 94 companies, a 12 percent increase over the first quarter.

Hungarian chip metrology company Semilab Ltd. has combined its three Massachusetts operations into one facility in Billerica, where the company has established its U.S. headquarters under the name Semilab USA. The chip market is tight because of lower demand for electronics because of the worldwide recession. So Semilab’s largest customer segment is the photovoltaic market now.

The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth’s Advanced Technology Manufacturing Center received another spark last week to power its research in marine energy in the form of a direct appropriation from the federal government.

A number of companies and research teams are developing on the possibility of harnessing the sun’s energy from space. One of these companies is PowerSat. Massachusetts officials today have put out the call for the first round of bids to install up to 16 megawatts of solar power production at state-owned facilities. Energy and Environmental Affairs (EEA) Secretary Ian Bowles is calling for proposals for installations at sites such as the Somerville Housing Authority, Westfield State College and facilities run by the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority, according to state officials.
